Open Enrollment begins on November 1 and goes through December 15 for coverage that begins on January 1, 2019. During this limited time period, you will be able to sign up for health insurance.
Outside of open enrollment, you will only be able to get health insurance during limited time periods if you have a qualifying life event. The best way to know that you are covered is to sign up before it’s too late. Don’t wait.
The price you pay is based on several factors including your age, where you live, your income, and the type of plan you select. Depending on your situation you may qualify for programs to lower your monthly payments (possibly even pay as little as $0 per month), and you may qualify for additional programs to lower your out of pocket expenses should you need to use your plan.
Many people have found it helpful to work with an agent who is able to assess their situation and recommend the best plan for them. The good news is that you cannot be charged any more whether or not you receive help from an agent, and this right is protected by law.
Copayments and coinsurance – Payments you make each time you get a medical service.
Deductible – How much you have to first spend on covered services before the insurance company pays a portion of the covered services (except for free preventive services).
Out-of-pocket maximum – The most you have to spend on covered services in a year. After you reach this amount, the insurance company pays 100% for covered services.
Premium – The monthly cost you must pay to maintain your health insurance coverage. This is often referred to as “monthly premium”.
Quote – Health insurance companies are required to give you an accurate estimate of what you should expect to pay as well as the terms of your health insurance plan, should you decide to do business with them. These estimates are commonly referred to as a “quote”.
Many people do not realize that healthcare related costs are the number one reason people go bankrupt in the United States.
If you are sick or injured and don’t have insurance, you are stuck paying the bill without health insurance.
The window to sign up is limited. Bottom line, don’t get left without coverage. Get a no obligation quote.
